Austin's new Room

I have been working on re-decorating Austin's room for some time now. Patty made Austin a very hungry Caterpillar quilt awhile back and I have been slowly spreading the theme throughout the room. I used pages from the book as artwork. I got the frames used and painted them all. I made the growth chart out of extra fabric from the quilt and pictures from the book. The only think I have left to do is paint his little dresser red and convert his crib into a toddler bed. I'm thinking I'll wait on changing the bed because I like how great he sleeps in his crib.

Fun new site I found

I found a really cool site yesterday. It is called piknic.com. I really miss having photoshop and Illustrator and InDesign but this site lets me do some of the fun things I used to be able to do with photos. I only got to play around with it for a few minutes but look at the picture I worked on.

Here is the original

What do you think? Better...worse?

Climbing surprise

While I was putting books on our new shelf I turned around and was surprised to see Austin laying in the middle shelf. I turned around just for a second to grab more books and there he was!

Austin's new Trains

Austin's friend Dinesh got him a gift card for his birthday. We took him to the store and Austin picked out a train set and a lightning Maqueen car. He has played with it every day since and he is really into the Thomas show. We watch it on You Tube. I'll have to get some from our library. Austin even knows the Character's names. Thanks Dinesh!

Drawer Shelf

I promised I would take pictures of what I did with the drawers that used to go with the dresser we turned into a book shelf. I loved the way the drawers looked on the inside so I came up with the idea of just hanging them on the wall. We have 5 drawers and I would love to hang a group of them together but we don't have any wall space where it would look nice so we hung one in the bathroom. We are also going to hang one in the bedroom. The other drawers will be put under the bed and used for storage for now.

I got the vintage handkerchief from a yard sale for 15 cents. The red thing with a silver top is an old ice pick but I use it for book making sometimes. The basket is from my Mom.

And this is my little helper with a milk mustache. I just couldn't help myself...he is so darn cute.

Drab to Fab

Jeff and I found this dresser by the side of the road with a free sign on it. We took it home and cleaned it up. Then we decided to make a project out of it. I wanted a new shelf in the family room so we starting brainstorming ideas as to how to go about changing this dresser into a shelf. I cleaned it off and we gutted everything inside. We put the drawers to the side for another project which I will show you later. Jeff added wood inside for the shelf and we sanded and painted it. I picked dark granite for the color. Then we added scrapbook paper to the back. I used 12 x 12 paper from Hobby Lobby and Elmers Spray adhesive and a brayer. I love how it turned out and it will be nice to be able to fit more stuff on our shelf in the family room. The old shelf might go in Austin's room or we might find something else to do with it.

Austin's Birthday

Austin is Two. I no longer say his age in months. He is still little for his age but to me he seems to big. He isn't a baby anymore. I'm sad that my baby is a toddler but there are some fun things that go along with it. He talks...a lot! Usually when we are home he just spends all day talking. I wonder where he got that from? He still loves nursery and playing with his friends. He loves to be outside. I usually have to force him to come inside when we are done playing. Austin loves to cook. My Mom made him an awesome apron for his birthday and he asks to wear it every time I'm in the kitchen cooking. He loves to do the dishes and "help" with the laundry. He loves showers, baths and anything having to do with water. He is obsessed with fish and cars. Jeff and I got him some fish for his birthday and he is still so excited about them. The night before his birthday I put streamers up in the kitchen. The streamers were left over from when my Mom decorated my porch when I brought Austin home from the hospital. I can't believe I still had them and used them for his second birthday. We started the day off with the traditional number pancake breakfast. Austin loved the pancake and syrup. After we skyped with GG and Pap Pap while Austin opened his present. That was a lot of fun and he was so excited to talk to them and watch them on the screen. After we said goodbye Austin's friend Brielle came over to give him a present. Austin loves it! He loves to push his cars around and now he has a little spot to do it and it is from his favorite movie...Cars! We had a little get together in the park with some of his friends. We gave Austin part of his present and cut the cake. I think the kids had a good time. When we came home we ate lunch and Austin and Jeff and I took a nap. After naps we went and picked out Austin's fish. He was so funny. He was so excited and he wouldn't let any one else hold them. He kept hugging them and laying his head on the bag. After getting the fish we met some friends at Chuckie Cheese for dinner. He was so excited. His favorite part is putting the coins in the slots. It was a great day. I think we all enjoyed spending the entire day together.
